BAYONNE, NJ - Members of the Bayonne Fire Department were dispatched to a home at 160 West 37th Street shortly after 7:00 p.m. Thursday on a report of a roof fire.
Upon arrival companies on scene found heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence that caused the evacuation of two nearby homes, closure of numerous streets in the area, as well an early end to soccer practices taking place at Stephen Gregg Park.
Calling it a “stubborn” fire, officials reported that the blaze necessitated a three-alarm response before finally being brought under control. According to Bayonne OEM there were no injuries and two residents displaced from the heavily damaged home,
Fire Chief Keith Weaver said that fire investigators were on scene to determine the cause which did not appear to be suspicious.
