BAYONNE, NJ - Five occupants were displaced from their home Friday following a fire that left one police officer with a minor injury.

Members of the Bayonne Fire Department reported to 23 East 32nd Street at approximately 4:39 p.m. Friday following reports of smoke coming from the building. Once on scene arriving fire companies found a working fire on the second floor.

Firefighters deployed two hose lines to prevent the fire from extending into the third floor attic space of the building and extinguished the fire placing it under control in just 50 minutes.

The injured police officer was treated at the scene by McCabe EMS personnel and returned to duty.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not considered suspicious in nature.
