BAYONNE, NJ - A 34-year-old Bayonne man faces aggravated assault charges following an incident that took place in the early evening hours of Saturday.

According to Captain Eric Amato, members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to the area of Merritt Street and Avenue C at approximately 6:25 p.m. on a report of a large fight in the middle of the street. 

During the on-scene investigation, officers learned that two black colored sedans pulled into the area with numerous males, one of whom later identified as Keith Cunniffe Jr., exiting them. Cuniffe Jr., it was reported, began to punch his 20-year-old male victim numerous times about the face.

After retreating back to their vehicle the men fled northbound, stopped a short while later by responding officers.  During that investigation, the occupant of the vehicle was positively identified as Cunniffe Jr. and placed under arrest for aggravated assault. 

The victim suffered facial injuries as a result of the assault and was treated at the Bayonne Medical Center.
