BAYONNE, NJ - A Bayonne man allegedly caught on camera burglarizing an East 38th Street residence also faces charges of resisting arrest and obstructing a government function after struggling with police officer attempting to apprehend him.

According to Lt. Eric Amato, the Friday incident began when members of the Bayonne Police Department were informed by a representative for the building that a camera he was watching from a remote location showed the suspect, Derek Booker, 38, illegally enter the home.

Having fled the scene, a statement reads, police tracked down the suspect, whom they had identified through the video, in the area of 41st Street and Broadway where he fled into his own residence when he noticed the police presence.

Despite the suspect’s refusal to comply with officers they were able to gain entry into his home and place him under arrest after a brief struggle. A stolen tool was recovered and returned to the owner, the report states.
