BAYONNE, NJ - A 25-year-old Jersey City man who attempted to use a bicycle seat as a weapon was arrested on Monday.
According to Lt Eric Amato the Bayonne Police Department became involved when an officer on routine patrol in the area of 26th Street and Avenue C observed Ahmed A. Adbelrehim leave his bicycle in the middle of the sidewalk and walk away with the bike seat in his hand.
When confronted by the officer the suspect is said to have responded that he was going to use it to defend himself from another individual in the area. The pending altercation, it was learned, stemmed from a previous interaction.
After complying with an initial to leave the area with the bicycle, thus avoiding a confrontation, the officer observed Abdelrehim a short time later on 26th Street with the bike seat. At this point, the officer stated, Adbelrehim, with seat in hand, and another male, were shouting back and forth at each other.
While the officer attempted to separate the men both “took a fighting stance” with Abdelrehim utilizing the bike seat to keep the other male away. Abdelrehim refused another order to to drop the bike seat and is said to have proceeded to swing the post of the bike seat over his head as he advanced toward the officer.
Adbelrehim eventually complied with the oderder to drop the seat and was subsequently placed under arrest.
