BAYONNE, NJ -  With Bayonne continuing to mourn the loss of Balbina and John Machio in a house fire Friday, Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the victim’s families have asked anyone wishing to make a donation in response to the tragedy direct their generosity to the families that were forced from their homes.

The Friday fire on Island View Terrace caused damage to 18 apartments displacing 32 residents.

“As I spoke to the neighbors on scene, the same thing was told to me over and over; ‘... such nice, warm, caring, and kind people,’” Davis reflected in a statement.’” Balbina (Bali) and John Macchio were the best of Bayonne!”

Davis went on to day that Bali was a founding member and the first Executive Director of The Windmill Alliance, a group dedicated to serving those most in need in Bayonne.

“Even after they are gone, Bali and John continue to bless their neighbors,’ Davis said, adding that donations can be made to the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation at their office located at 555 Kennedy Boulevard or online by clicking here.

“On behalf of our grieving city, I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family of Bali and John and to thank them for honoring their memory in such a beautiful way,” Davis concluded. “In the true Bayonne spirit, we will be here for each other as we rebuild.”
