BAYONNE, NJ - A three-car crash in the early hours of Saturday claimed one life and left five people injured, according the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

A statement released Tuesday read that the accident took place at approximately 12:50 a.m. at the intersection of 22nd Street and Avenue E. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

One of the vehicles, a 2003 Honda CRV, had rolled onto its roof, ejecting one of the occupants, Degloria Peterson, 61, Bayonne, who was transported to Jersey City Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries a short time later. The two other occupants of the vehicle were also transported to the hospital where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

An initial investigation has suggested that the second vehicle, a 2003 Honda Accord, was traveling on 22nd Street when it collided with the CRV traveling in the opposite direction. Both occupants of the second vehicle also received treatment at Jersey City Medical Center.

The third vehicle involved in the collision, a 2008 Honda Accord, was traveling southbound on Avenue E, the statement read, when it apparently became the second vehicle to strike the Honda CRV. One of the occupants was transported Jersey City Medical Center for treatment while a second left the scene unharmed.
