BAYONNE, NJ - Two Jersey City men rang the new year in from inside a jail cell after being arrested by members of the Bayonne Police Department on weapons and drugs charges.

According to Lt. Eric Amato, Angel Cortes, 31, and Glendel Wright, 30, were observed traveling at a high rate of speed just before 11:00 p.m. in the areas of 38th Street.

Police officers pulled them over in the area of 44th street and immediately noticed the smell of marijuana. Upon further observation a partially opened bag which was later found to contain ammunition was seen in the backseat.

The men were ordered out of the vehicle and Wright, who was the passenger, was found to be in possession of a loaded .38 semiautomatic handgun. 

A further search of the vehicle led to the recovery of marijuana, heroin, and edible THC, along with shotgun ammunition and additional bullets for the gun found.
