BAYONNE, NJ - Police are searching for a man said to have stolen and destroyed a crucifix from Saint Vincent De Paul Church on Avenue C.

According to Lt. Erica Amato members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to the area at approximately 8:45 p.m. Wednesday and were advised by a woman who said she saw the man remove the crucifix, valued at $1500, from the church’s front yard, throw it to the ground causing it to break in half, slamm the piece containing  a statue of Jesus into a wall several times causing it to break into numerous pieces, and toss the remaining piece over the wall.

The man is said to have fled the area immediately.
