BAYONNE, NJ - An early morning truck accident snarled rush hour traffic Friday.

According to reports, a tractor trailer rolled over on Route 440 South near the Ave C exit at approximately 6:15 a.m. Arriving on the scene Bayonne emergency responders found the driver pinned inside the cab of the truck and, as members of the Bayonne Police Department shut down traffic, their counterparts in the fire department worked to extricate the driver.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries while NJDOT and Tumino’s Towing continued working to upright the truck and clear the scene.

The roadway was reopened in both directions at 9:45 a.m. 

“This was a labor intensive response,” Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said pointing to the difficulty associated with employing the necessary tools against the lightweight construction of the truck. “The firefighter’s training for incidents just like this one proved very helpful today
