JERSEY CITY/BAYONNE, NJ - A Jersey City woman jumped to her death from an apartment building on Friday, in what officials believe was a suicide. The victim’s name or age has been released.
According to a report the Jersey City police responded to 396 Manila Avenue at about 1:53 p.m. in response to a call that a woman had leaped from the Villa Borinquen Apartments. “It appears to have been a suicide. The female was DOA,” said city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.

On April 14 the Bayonne Bridge was closed to traffic temporarily after Port Authority Police received a call at 11:25 a.m. that a man was sitting on the railing of the span. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, apparently threatened to jump.
“NYPD ESU saved the life of a male threatening to jump from the Bayonne Bridge,” a tweet by @NYPDSpecialops said. “The male sat on the ledge high above the water. He was safely taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for evaluation.”
Units from the Port Authority Police, the Port Authority Emergency Service Unit (ESU), NYPD Emergency Service Unit, NYPD Aviation, Bayonne Police, a Bayonne negotiator, and EMS responded to the scene.
