BAYONNE, NJ - An effort to expand knowledge of the Hebrew language among the Jewish community of Bayonne and Jersey City is continuing according to religious leaders.

According to Rabbi Jacob Benzaquen the effort is part of the NJOP’s two-decade old Read Hebrew America and Canada campaign that is expected to reach 12,000 affiliated and unaffiliated Jews and all people of faith and interest in the United States and Canada this year.

The NJOP a nationwide non-profit established in response to “the spiraling losses of Jews from Jewish life due to assimilation and lavke of Jewish knowledge.”

Led by Benzaquen, the five week Hebrew Reading and Learning Crash Course will focus on teaching the Hebrew alphabet and basic reading skills to Jews with little or no background in Hebrew and will continue on Tuesday, January 8 at 6:30 p.m. The class meets, at Bnai Jacob which is located at 176 West Side Avenue in Jersey City.
