BAYONNE, NJ — The Bayonne High School baseball team rallied from a six-run deficit to defeat Plainfield, 10-6, in the first round of the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 4 state tournament on Wednesday.
Anthony Mancini doubled and drove in three runs, and Robert Geisler also had three runs batted in for the Bees (13-10), who trailed, 6-0, before batting in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Bayonne scored four runs in the fourth, then four more in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead. Quincy Mitchell was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Tyler Johnson also drove in two runs in the win.
Andrew Johnston got the win in relief. He pitched four innings, struck out seven, walked none and allowed just one hit.
Bayonne will play at Westfield in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.
