SECAUCUS, NJ -- The Bayonne girls basketball team shut out Hudson Catholic in the opening quarter and went on to win, 46-36, in the Hudson County Tournament championship game Saturday afternoon at High Tech.
Two of Bayonne's three losses this season came against Hudson Catholic, but the Bees (23-3) started the game on a 13-0 run and led, 22-10, at halftime.
Senior center Makoye Diawara collected 18 points and 17 rebounds for Bayonne. She also came up with three steals on defense. Sophomore guard Eniya Scott finished with 17 points, three assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Only two other players scored for Bayonne--Jada Phillips (five points, three rebounds) and Jolyssa Moody (four points). Zanai Jones led Hudson Catholic (22-4) with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Bayonne will open play in the Section 2, Group 4 state tournament Tuesday at home at 5:30 p.m. against Plainfield.
