To the Editor:
The Belmar Historical Society (BHS) would like to thank the community of Belmar and surrounding towns, individuals, businesses and all who contributed to the successful campaign to raise funds to repair the World War I Doughboy statue that was vandalized in 2016.
Those who attended our "coming home” party on July 27 were delighted to watch as the Seward Johnson Atelier reinstalled the repaired statue to its home at Doughboy Park.
Many thanks go out to the following individuals and businesses who provided refreshments and entertainment: Main Street Donuts; Federico’s Pizza; Doughboy’s Wood Fired Pizza; Dunkin’ Donuts; Don’s Pizza King; Bob Phelan who played WWI patriotic music on his bagpipe; Borough of Belmar; Belmar Department of Public Works, and everyone who contributed to this event, including the volunteers of the BHS.
