WEST ORANGE, NJ  — The aviary, home to more than 500 Australian grass parakeets, is now open at Essex County Turtle Back Zoo.

The aviary allows zoo guests to walk among free-flying birds, including laughing kookaburras and lorikeets. For $2, guests can purchase a food stick, allowing the colorful birds to eat from their hands.

The aviary, part of the Australian Outback area, is open now through September. There is no additional charge to enter the aviary.
