Beer is Back for This Weekend's New Jersey Seafood Festival in Belmar

BELMAR, NJ — The beer tent will rise once again at the New Jersey Seafood Festival, scheduled for Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21 at Belmar’s Silver Lake Park.

Robbinsville-based Ritchie & Page Distributing Co. will replace Shore Point Distributing Co. Inc. in supplying the beer to the three-day event, according to Belmar Mayor Matthew Doherty. On May 6, Doherty announced that Wall-based Shore Point would not be permitted to sell beer at the three-day festival, unless it settled a contract dispute with union employees who were locked out of work.

Since then, Doherty has been considering other options to operate the beer tent, reaching an agreement with Ritchie & Page on May 11. “Ritchie & Page have a solid reputation as a beer distributor, and I am very confident they will do a great job,” he said.

While Shore Point paid a $10,000 fee to Belmar to operate the festival’s beer tent, Ritchie & Page will dole out $5,000 — an amount that Doherty said was “very reasonable since this is their first time at the festival, and they are taking a chance with us.”

In addition to being a distributor of Budweiser, Landshark and Heineken, Ritchie & Page also will offer craft beers from Belmar’s own Beach Haus Brewery. “Having a Belmar-made beer in the festival for the first time is a great addition,” Doherty said.

This year’s New Jersey Seafood Festival will feature new activities and attractions for the whole family, including live music, a wine tent, contests, kids’ activities, craft vendors and, of course, seafood.  It will be held at Silver Lake Park, Fifth and Ocean Avenues, rain or shine, on the following days and times:

  • Friday,  May 19:    4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 20:   11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 21:   11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Due to the thousands of attendees expected for the event, there will be limited parking around the venue itself. As a result, free parking will be available at the municipal parking lot at Fifth and River Road, and Dempsey Park on 16th Avenue.
Free shuttles will run through Belmar continuously from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, with stops at the Belmar Marina and Belmar train station, delivering visitors to the end of Silver Lake at Fifth Avenue, adjacent to the festival.
