Belmar Elementary School PTO Taps Two Graduates for College Scholarships

BELMAR, NJ — Belmar Elementary School PTO has awarded $1,000 scholarships to two high-achieving graduates who are college-bound in the fall.

Alma Sanchez Hernandez and Christian McCloskey were selected for the awards based on their academic record, community service, involvement in extracurricular activities and their essay in which they answered the question, “What teacher influenced you the most at Belmar Elementary School and why?”

A graduate of Red Bank Regional High School, Sanchez Hernandez will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y. While at Red Bank Regional, she participated in the jazz and concert band, and was a member of the French National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society.

McCloskey graduated from Manasquan High School, where he participated in the Manasquan High School Television Station, and belonged to the Chess Club, Academic Club and Environmental Club. He is also an active Boy Scout in Belmar Troop 40.
