BELMAR, NJ — It’s a new year at Belmar Elementary School, where students are off to a fresh start with new classes, new teachers and the opportunity to embrace learning and even make new friends.

The school opened its doors on September 6 with three half-day sessions for some 550 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade who live in Belmar or Lake Como. They were welcomed by a 60-member faculty that includes administrators, teachers and other professionals.

At the showing of “Jaws” at Movies on the Beach at dusk today, September 9, Belmar Elementary School’s eighth-grade class will be holding a popcorn fundraiser.

With the departure of principal Lisa Gleason at the end of the 2016-2017 school year, Belmar Superintendent David Hallman has assumed the role of principal, as Sarah Wilton, who was teacher facilitator/supervisor of instruction, has taken over as assistant principal. In addition, child study team member Lauren Vasile has been promoted to supervisor of special services.

Also, the Belmar PTO will hold its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 13 in the school’s media center at 7 p.m. Agenda items include a review of its annual budget, book fair, Back to School Night and future fundraising ideas.
