BELMAR, NJ — The 39-year-old man whose body was found under the Belmar boardwalk on June 16, has been identified as Christiaan Rose of Spring Lake Heights, according to the Belmar Police Department.

The cause of death, which does not appear to be suspicious, has not yet been determined as investigators await the results of toxicology reports, said Belmar Police Chief Andrew Huisman in a press release.

At 5:34 a.m. on June 16, Belmar police responded to the Ninth Avenue beach for a report of a deceased man under the boardwalk. Patrols arrived on scene and found Rose’s body. Belmar Police’s detective bureau and Middlesex/Monmouth County Medical Examiner Office also responded to the scene to investigate the cause of death, the release said.

In his obituary, Rose is described as a “talented carpenter … who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, the ocean and the beach.” It also stated that he “struggled daily for sobriety, mental clarity and a chance for normalcy.”

Anyone with information that may help in this investigation is asked to contact the Belmar detective bureau at 732-681-3715.
