BELMAR, NJ — Belmar police are looking for information on a hit-and-run accident this past Memorial Day weekend that has left a bicyclist with multiple injuries.
On Saturday, May 26 at about 6 p.m., a bicyclist traveling north on Main Street near the Seventh Avenue intersection was struck by a beige and tan sport utility vehicle going in the same direction, according to police.
After the bicyclist was hit on the vehicle’s passenger side, the unknown driver continued south on Main Street and made a turn west onto Eighth Avenue, fleeing the scene, police said. The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with serious injuries. His or her name was not released by police.
Based on an image captured by a nearby security camera, the vehicle is believed to be 2006 or 2007 Ford Explorer, possibly an Eddie Bauer model because of its two-tone paint with the base color being Arizona beige and the trim color being light prairie tan, according to police. The rear tail light is not functioning, and there may be front-end damage to its passenger side
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information that may help in locating the driver is asked to call the detective bureau at 732-681-3715.
