BELMAR, NJ — Belmar Public Library’s “Breakfast with the Author” on Saturday, May 18 will feature David Cupoli, author of “Braving the Storm: A Personal Experience of Hurricane Sandy.”
During the free 10 a.m. presentation, the Belmar resident will share what he has described as “the experience of my life.” Not only is his short book a first-hand account of living through the superstorm, but it's a personal achievement for Cupoli, who has Down syndrome but is known for never letting any obstacle stand in his way.
In his story, he takes readers on a journey that begins with him and his mother, Carol, remaining in their Ninth Avenue home on the storm’s first night of October 29, 2012, being rescued by first-responders in a raft the next day and then returning home by canoe the following day to find the destruction left in Sandy’s path — and the task that awaited him.
