BELMAR, NJ — The cherry trees along Monument Row on Main Street are in full bloom — creating soft clouds of pastel pink blossoms in the small park between 12th and 13th Avenues

These remembrance trees are a symbol of patriotism — growing strong in a park that serves as a tribute to the fallen heroes of the armed forces. And now new street banners of the American flag — some decorated with the bald eagle — punctuate that patriotic theme.

In fact, the banners line the entire length of Main Street, as well as 10th Avenue from Main to Route 35, and are raised high in Pyanoe Plaza and in the adjacent Belmar Plaza between 10th and Eighth Avenues. It’s an ongoing project of the Belmar Business Partnership (BBP) to enhance the appearance and appeal of the borough’s central shopping district.

The project’s next phase is the return of the large planters filled with colorful flowers that will be brightening up the sidewalks and storefronts for Belmar’s peak spring and summer seasons.

Created by Belmar to manage its Special Improvement District, BBP is the nonprofit district management corporation whose mission is to foster the economic development and revitalization of the Belmar business district through private/public partnerships.

Its operations are primarily funded through an assessment on all commercial properties in Belmar, along with some sponsorship and other additional income sources.
