BELMAR, NJ — The Beach Music Rock Band is certainly a crowd-pleaser. Kicking off the summer during Belmar’s Friday Night Concert Series, the band had its audience enjoying tunes that ranged from early rock ‘n’ roll to rap.

And while everyone from youngsters to seniors was entertained by the June 30 performance in Pyanoe Plaza, what made it even more impressive was the band’s young talent. Known by its acronym BMRB, its members range in age from 8 to 17.

“The future of rock ‘n’ roll is in your town!” declared musician Danny White, owner of Beach Music Studios, during his introduction of the band — a brainchild of his Belmar-based studio.

And with that, BMRB did not disappoint. First to take the stage was BMRB! Opening Act — the band’s younger group composed of 8- to 11-year-olds Tommy Golding, Zach Zucconi, Kayla Kirk, Brandon Risko, Darren Chen, Aidan Chapman, Jack Preston, Siobhan Brown, Andrew Ngamsittivorapong and Kate Thomas.

They belted out a variety of classic rock tunes from Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” to the Eagles’ “Already Gone,” with several rap-style selections sprinkled in.

“They love classic rock. It’s what they want to do,” said White, whose studio is known for its efforts to promote music education, including sponsoring an annual scholarship program for school-age students.

Next to perform was BMRB! Headliners, holding true to its name, with 14- to 17-year-olds Kevin Clark, Ryan Swanson, Patrick Piazza, Dylan Mohr, Kevin Swanson and Kieran Fino-Saunders.

Beginning the set with Rupert Holmes’ “The Pina Colada Song,” they also demonstrated their love of rock ‘n’ roll with song choices that spanned the decades — from Todd Rundgren’s “Hello, It’s Me” and Tom Petty’s “Don’t Do Me Like That,” to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Scar Tissue” to Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire.”

Since BMRB performs throughout the year, its members can be found practicing at Beach Music Studios in Belmar Plaza, where these student musicians are led by White and three other instructors — Andrew Clelland, Mike Williams and Matt Daniels.

BMRB’s next performances will be at the Lakewood BlueClaws game on Sunday, August 6 and then at the Sixth Annual Belmar Music Fest on Tuesday, August 29 on the Belmar beach.
