Bridgewater Students Sending Their Love to U.S. Troops Overseas

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Hamilton Primary School in Bridgewater held its annual Valentine's for Vets program, with hundreds of students sitting down to create personalized Valentine's Day cards that will be shipped to U.S. troops deployed around the world by Operation Shoebox New Jersey.

The nonprofit, volunteer organization will host a packing event at the Manville VFW on Saturday, February 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The students' cards will be included in each one of the 1,000 personal care packages that will be assembled that day by volunteers. Each box will contain donated items like candy, cookies, toothpaste, socks and more.

Volunteers are invited to to help assemble the care packages at the February 10 event, to be held at the VFW Post, 600 Washington Avenue, Manville

A list of items that can be donated can be found on the Operation Shoebox New Jersey website at opshoeboxnj.org.

Operation Shoebox New Jersey has worked with the students at the school for the past five years; the program is sponsored by the school's PTO organization, with several members on hand to help the children make their cards.

One Confirmed Case of E. Coli in Monmouth County Linked to Chopped Romaine Lettuce

TRENTON, NJ — Chopped romaine lettuce grown in Arizona is likely the source of an E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least seven New Jersey residents, including one in Monmouth County, according to federal and state health officials.
