From fine-dining restaurants and casual eateries to breakfast hotspots and specialty shops, there will be plenty from which to choose throughout this seashore community.

In this third in a series of special features on the food tour and tasting, the spotlight is placed on participating restaurants along Routes 71 and 35, as well as several on 10th Avenue entering the heart of town.

Turnstile Coffee Roasters, 1607 Route 71

For coffee connoisseurs, there’s always something light and fruity or earthy and smoky percolating at Turnstile Coffee Roasters. The shop brews freshly roasted coffees made from the finest beans from all over the world. It’s also the only known coffee bar in New Jersey to be equipped with the Poursteady, an automated pour-over coffee machine that makes the perfect “made-to-order” single cups of coffee. Food tour participants will taste several specialty coffees, sample fresh-baked selections from its light fare menu and check out the Poursteady, which is demonstrated in the video below by owner Mike Ayars.

Mr. Shrimp Seafood Restaurant and Market, 1608 Route 71

Once a small fish shack on Route 35 in Wall, Mr. Shrimp has grown into a full-service seafood restaurant and market that moved into its spacious new location nearly two years ago. Its extensive menu spills over with myriad selections from the sea for lunch and dinner, as well as such hot starters as fried calamari, mussels marina and roasted clams, and a full raw bar. In addition to enjoying a meal in its expansive dining room, all dishes are available to take out at its fish market, which is worth a trip in itself.

Ragin’ Cajun, 1102 River Road (Route 35)

Walking into Ragin' Cajun is like entering someone’s living room — and that’s exactly how the staff at this quaint eatery want patrons to feel. Since the building was once a house, the dining room and open kitchen offer an “everyone is family” environment, where dishes are specially prepared with a New Orleans flair. Known as “Belmar’s Little Bayou,” its most popular dishes include alligator sausage, blackened tuna, seafood jambalaya and Swamp Daddy Pasta — jumbo shrimp, alligator sausage, artichoke hearts and mushrooms in its own cream sauce, tossed with bowtie pasta.

Marina Grille, 905 Route 35

Located at the Belmar Manutti Marina, Marina Grille offers dockside dining along the Shark River with spectacular sunset views that cannot be surpassed. Owned and operated by Point Pleasant Beach-based Chef’s International, its bill of fare is big on a variety of menu choices —and entertainment and drink specials to match. Marina Grille features classic American cuisine, including fresh seafood, steaks, burgers and wood-fired pizza.

Federici’s on 10th, 507 10th Avenue

For nearly 100 years, the Federici family has earned a notable reputation for offering authentic Italian cuisine at its locations throughout Monmouth County, including Federici’s on 10th. Its award-winning brick oven pizza is known far and wide — thin, crispy crust topped with just the right amount of cheese and homemade sauce. And there’s the full Italian menu that boasts such dishes as baked ziti, special lasagna with ground beef and sausage, veal marsala, and so much more. Just don’t forget to order a side or two of meatballs.

Beckman’s Deli & Grill, 704 10th Avenue

Belly-buster subs, over-the-top breakfast platters, black angus cheeseburgers, and of course, pork roll, egg and cheese — or any variation of the Jersey Shore’s beloved sandwich. That’s what you’ll find at Beckman’s Deli & Grill, a favorite destination among the locals when it comes to classic comfort food, served up fresh and made-to-order. For the tour, stop by for pork roll hash, as well as wings in its homemade barbecue sauce or buffalo sauce.
