LAKE COMO, NJ — Lake Como’s newest borough council member is David Gardner, who was sworn in tonight to fill the seat vacated by Kevin Higgins when he became mayor in August.
All members of the governing body attending the September 18 meeting — Mayor Higgins, Council President Douglas Witte, Virginia Kropac, John Carvelli and Christopher D’Antuono — voted for Gardner’s appointment, which will run through the end of the year. The Democrat will seek election to the seat in November.
Gardner was chosen among the names of three individuals submitted by Lake Como Democratic Chairman Michael Ryan to be considered for the seat — the others being planning board member Nick Demauro and Ryan himself.
Gardner, an attorney, moved with his wife, Michelle Bozikova Gardner, to the borough in 2017 and has served on the environmental commssion. He will assume Mayor Higgins’s former council responsibilities as fire/first aid liaison and overseeing water/sewer and public works operations.
