LAKE COMO/BELMAR, NJ — The Out of the Darkness Jersey Shore Walk will be held tomorrow morning, September 15, resulting in road closures in Lake Como and Belmar.
Some 1,500 people are expected for the 2-mile walk, which will begin at 10 a.m. at Bar Anticipation, 703 16th Avenue, Lake Como. Participants will make their way down 16th Avenue in Belmar to Ocean Avenue, where they will head south to North Boulevard. They then will proceed lakeside westbound to Main Street and continue north until returning to Bar Anticipation.
The following streets will be closed shortly before the walk begins until it is finished:
- 16th Avenue from Main Street to Ocean Avenue
- Ocean Avenue between 16th Avenue and North Boulevard
- North Boulevard
- Main Street between 16th and 22nd Avenues
Residents are asked to be mindful of the street closings while the runners are on the course and to cooperate with public safety officials.
The walk benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), which invests in new research, creates educational programs, advocates for public policy and supports survivors of suicide loss. It has set an ambitious goal of reducing the annual rate of suicide 20 percent by 2025.
