LAKE COMO, NJ — The Borough Council last night tightened standards that ensure permit fees for special events are collected in a timely manner.

Organizations are now required to place a deposit of 50 percent of the permit’s total cost — or $500, whichever amount is greater — no less than five days before the event, according to the revised rules approved by the governing body. The remaining balance must be paid within five days after the invoice is issued by the borough. The mayor and council still reserve the right to waive all or part of the fees.

The special events fees primarily pertain to groups that hold 5K runs, walks and similar activities that prompt the need for police to direct traffic along an event’s route.
