LAKE COMO, NJ — Following borough tradition, all Lake Como veterans and family members have received a special invitation to join the Memorial Day service that will be held tomorrow, May 27 at 10 a.m. at the memorial on the banks of Lake Como.
“The municipality and its residents are very appreciative of the sacrifice that so many of you made to protect our freedom,” Mayor Kevin Higgins wrote in a letter sent to veterans living in the borough. “The residents of the borough look forward to saying thank you as we honor your devotion and sacrifice to our country.”
As Lake Como continues to identify veterans in the borough, residents who are veterans — or anyone who knows of a veteran in their neighborhood — are asked to pass along this invitation to its Memorial Day service.
For the past several years, former Lake Como Mayor Michael Ryan, who also served in the U.S. Army, has spearheaded the Memorial Day observance that includes a “roll call" of every veteran or widow of a veteran in attendance — as residents salute them individually for their service.
