BELMAR, NJ — A male body was found on Saturday morning, June 16 under the Belmar boardwalk at Ninth Avenue, according to reports.
While the Monmouth County Medical Examiner's Office was at the scene on Ocean Avenue at about 8:15 a.m., a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said the incident is being handled directly by the Belmar Police Department.
Belmar police have not yet released information on the death, including the male victim's identity. It is believed he died of an apparent drug overdose.
The death comes a year after two Belmar cousins died as the result of drowning off the beach in the vicinity of Ninth and 10th Avenues. Emily Gonzalez Perez, 12, died on June 19, 2017 after spending four days on life support due to injuries suffered during the tragic incident on June 15, 2017, which also claimed the life of her 13-year-old cousin, Mitzi Hernandez-Nicolas.
