Niagara Falls: A Short Drive with a Huge Plunge Ahead

Best slogan ever.
So, if I climb up, how do I get down?

The raging waters of one of the world's greatest natural wonders not enough? Wax museums and haunted houses not your thing?

Niagara Falls in Ontario is upping the adrenaline factor with the opening of the Whirlpool Adventure Course, a series of suspended obstacles, rope bridges, swings and cargo nets -- all high in the air and offering sweeping views of the Niagara River gorge.

This playground in the sky will have its grand opening on Friday, May 19 but is open on weekends only until then.

There is a kids course and two classic courses, but the most dramatic figures to be the What's To Fear Jump, a 40-foot plunge to the safety of good old-fashioned terra firma.

The adventure is priced at $40 (Canadian dollars) — approximately $30 (U.S. dollars) — with an even more extreme course scheduled to open later this month for $10 extra.

It follows on the heels of the MistRider to the Falls zipline, which was launched last July to enormous response and just began its second season.

The zipline is right at the base of the city's main — if not kitschy — tourist district, Clifton Hill, and propels thrill-seekers some 2.200 feet down toward the American side into the misty gorge. And at $50 (Canadian dollars), it sure beats going over the falls in a barrel.
