LAKE COMO, NJ — Each year during the Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Oceanside Memorial Home has a prime location at the beginning of the parade route.

Situated on Main Street near Lake Como where the fire trucks and bands line up for the annual procession, the funeral home’s hot dog stand has become a hot spot for early-bird parade participants — this year selling enough franks-in-buns to donate $500 to the borough.

Oceanside representatives presented a check in that amount to the Lake Como Borough Council at its May 16 meeting, expressing their desire to help a family in need with the gift.

“You know the pulse of the town,” in deciding how the donation is used, said David Hernandez, manager of Oceanside. “We’ve been here for four years now, and Lake Como is a great town to be part of, and we’re glad to be part of it.”

While Hernandez is satisfied with setting up the hot dog stand in Oceanside’s parking lot, it did limit his “business” to the early part of the parade. So he did have one request of the council — to be able to move his operation north on Main Street, possibly in front of Borough Hall, “so we can sell more hot dogs.”
