BELMAR, NJ — Registration to become a junior lifeguard will continue online through Thursday, May 31.
Youngsters age 9 through 17 can sign up by clicking here to obtain an application and then returing it by mail to the address on the form. The fee is $70 for Belmar residents and St. Rose students, and $95 for nonresidents.
Applicants must be strong ocean swimmers and can run a mile nonstop to participate in the program, which will be held in July, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.
In addition to local competitions, the junior lifeguards will be part of the United States Lifesaving Association’s regional tournament. Belmar’s junior lifeguard program is among 10 nationwide that are affiliated with USLA, a nonprofit association for beach lifeguards and open water rescuers.
