Swastika Found Painted on Exterior of Rutgers University Dormitory

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A Nazi swastika was found graffitied on the outside a Rutgers University dormitory over​ the Halloween weekend, university officials confirmed.

The latest incident comes less than a week after​ w​hite supremacist recruitment posters were found across campus, and while a food science professor was ​accused of sharing dozens of anti-Semitic posts on his Facebook profile.

Rutgers police responded to Stonier Hall​, near the Brower Commons dining hall, at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 29, according to Rutgers spokesperson Neal Buccino.

Police discovered a “large black swastika, surrounded by a red circle with a red line through the swastika,” he said.

According to The Tab Rutgers, the swastika was found by itself, while the red circle was added later.

The university is currently removing the swastika, according to officials, but it is unknown if authorities are investigating the incident.

“Such symbols are antithetical to the values of the university, where we strive to create an atmosphere free from bias and to treat people of all backgrounds with dignity and respect,” Buccino wrote.

The university is still reeling from several hate speech and bias incidents in the week prior.

On Tuesday, October 24, the​ white supremacist group, ​"​Identity Evropa,"​ posted recruitment fliers across​ the​ Rutgers campus, while in a separate incident, a flier reading, “Black lives don’t matter,” was posted ​on​ a Rutgers campus​ bus.

Then on Thursday, October 26, Rutgers food science professor Michael Chikindas was found to have dozens of anti-Semitic posts on his Facebook​, it is alleged.​

Students are now calling for Chikandas’ removal through an online petition, which has garnered thousands of signatures.
