TAPinto.net began a campaign on Wednesday, September 25 to bring attention to the lack of local news reporting in communities across the country and to showcase why TAPinto is the solution to the local journalism crisis in America.

“TAPinto is the future of local journalism,” franchisee Jackie Lieberman of TAPinto Westfield said.  “(In) so many places across this country, there is no local news, no one is covering government, no one is keeping an eye on what is going on, no one is telling people what is happening.”

"The need and desire for local news continues to grow.  While other media publications are consolidating, laying off journalists, and cutting local news coverage, TAPinto is filling that void through its unique franchise model for local news," said TAPinto CEO and Publisher Michael Shapiro.

TAPinto, a network of more than 80 franchised online local news sites with more than 9,000,000 unique readers during the last year, has become a national model for how to provide original local news reporting in a scalable sustainable business model.

Franchisee Steve Lenox said, "The lack of reliable local reporting is making it difficult for residents and news consumers to know what is happening in their local government.  Being a TAPinto franchisee is rewarding work.  It gets you deep into the heart of the community."  Lenox currently owns TAPinto Paterson, TAPinto Bayonne and TAPinto Hamilton/Robbinsville.

TAPinto's innovative model and proprietary technology gives franchisees the ability to share content with each other and sell advertising into each other, enabling the local owner/publishers to operate at scale with low overhead.

Lieberman said, “(TAPinto) gives me the opportunity to be home with my kids...I have been able to be home when they get home from school…part of it is the flexibility of being your own boss, being able to work where you want, when you want, how you want, has been really good for me.”
