FREEHOLD, NJ — Monmouth County will present a special roundtable discussion on ticks and mosquitoes — and how to guard against the diseases they spread — will be held on Wednesday, June 5, featuring a panel of environmental and health professionals.
Hosted by the Monmouth Council Environmental Commission, the presentation is designed to inform the general public on ticks, mosquitoes and other pests prevalent in the area, including their behavior and habitat, the risks of exposure, and strategies for protection against such diseases as West Nile virus and Lyme disease.
The free program titled “Ticks and Mosquitoes in Monmouth County: Resources to Help You Protect Your Family and Pets” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Monmouth County Agricultural Building, 4000 Kozloski Road.
It will feature a variety of expert speakers, including:
■ Christopher Merkel, public health coordinator of the Monmouth County Health Department.
■ Dina Fonseca, professor and director of Rutgers Center of Vector Biology.
■ Deborah Breitstein, veterinarian and partner-owner of Animal Health Care of Marlboro.
■ Victoria Thompson, superintendent of Monmouth County Mosquito Control Division.
The panel discussion will be followed by a brief question-an-answer session. Attendees will also receive a copy of the new Eco-Tips brochure, “Dealing with Ticks and Mosquitoes.” The Monmouth County Division of Planning routinely publishes Eco-Tips brochures to coincide with roundtable events.
