On Saturday, March 3, an Investiture Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church, Belmar, followed by a luncheon at Doolan’s Shore Club, Spring Lake Heights.

BELMAR/LAKE COMO, NJ — In marking a time-honored tradition and celebrating Irish heritage, the Belmar Council honored the two individuals who will be leading the Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 4.

Parade grand marshal Dan Reilly and deputy grand marshal Patricia Jenkins were recognized at the council's February 20 meeting through proclamation for their “consistent and admirable service to Belmar and the Irish community.”

In accepting the honor, Reilly applauded the efforts of the parade committee, which is led by chairman Chip Cavanagh, who joined him at the meeting.“It's a great honor and a great committee,” Reilly told the audience. “I hope you get your Irish on and hope we get great weather.”

Cavanagh said the parade committee is putting the final touches on the event, which will kick off at 12:30 p.m. in Lake Como at 22nd Avenue and Main Street, where marchers will assemble around the lake. From there, the parade will continue north on Main Street to Sixth Avenue.

"We have quite a few pipe bands, floats, and high school and grammar school bands," he said, not to leave out the hundreds of fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles that will be part of the procession.

Marchers are to be dropped off at North Boulevard and Surf Avenue on the east end of Lake Como.  Expect roads in Lake Como and Belmar to be closed beginning at about 10 a.m. Parking will be at a premium in both towns.

NJ Transit will be operating extra trains on the North Jersey Coast Line from the Belmar Train Station, located at Eighth and 10th Avenue — right around the corner from the parade. Details are provided on the NJ Transit website.

With nearly 6,000 marchers, more than 40 bands and some 200,000 spectators, the Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade has grown into one of the largest and best attended parades in New Jersey.
