Trash Collection Days Change for Businesses in Belmar’s Shopping District

BELMAR, NJ — In an effort to tidy up the commercial shopping district’s appearance on the busy summer weekends, trash collection for businesses located on the west side of E Street will now be on Tuesday and Friday, effective June 9.

Under the current Wednesday and Saturday twice-weekly pickup, full trash cans are left out at the curb Friday night for Saturday morning collection — creating an unkempt look particularly along Main Street and 10th Avenue, which usually has a good amount of pedestrian traffic late into the evening on Friday.

Now trash cans should be left at the curb on Monday and Thursday night for the next day’s early-morning pickup.

The change was prompted by feedback from individual business owners and the Belmar Business Partnership, the nonprofit corporation that manages the borough’s Special Improvement District. It applies to all businesses west of E Street that are not required to or do not have private collection.

For more information, call the Belmar Department of Public Works at 732-681-0452.
