SEA GIRT, NJ — Monmouth County’s inaugural Veterans and Military Appreciation Day will be held Saturday, October 12 at the Sea Girt Army Camp.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., all military veterans and their families are invited to enjoy a day at the camp that includes a barbecue, a DJ and bands, horseshoe and cornhole competitions, and activities for kids.
The event was originally slated for the Belmar beachfront on September 7 — to coincide with the statewide Autism Beach Bash held the next day — but inclement weather and high winds earlier that week forced its postponement.
The event is hosted by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, whose autism outreach coordinator Fran Hines of Belmar has spearheaded the effort from the beginning. He has brought aboard several veteran organizations to present the event, including co-sponsor Bridging The Gap For Veterans, a Manasquan-based nonprofit group that helps veterans and military spouses to “discover their career dreams.”
In addition, Colton and Friends-A Foundation for Autism — the Belmar-based nonprofit started by Hines and his wife, Jeannie, that supports the Autism Beach Bash — is a co-sponsor.
This free event will be held on the grounds of the New Jersey National Guard Training Center, 100 Camp Drive, Sea Girt. Registration is required and can be made by clicking here.
