BELMAR/LAKE COMO, NJ — Thunderstorms that may produce strong winds and heavy rains are in the Monmouth County forecast for this afternoon and evening.
The most severe storms on August 13 are expected south of Interstate 95, with the potential of damaging wind gusts that could result in tree damage and power outages, according to the National Weather Service, which has not ruled out large hail and isolated tornadoes.
The clouds and potential for showers will remain throughout the week, with the sun not expected to make an appearance until Thursday — just in time for the weekend.
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service:
Today: Showers and thunderstorms, which scould produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 80. South wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 5 a.m., then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 7 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Wednesday: A slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind 5 to 8 mph.
Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. East wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Thursday night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
