(Editor’s note: The following is taken from a Facebook post on January 2 by Danny White, owner of Beach Music Studios. We thought our readers would like to read about this Belmar-based establishment's important milestone — in White's own words.)
To the Editor:
Fifteen years ago today, I opened the doors to Beach Music Studios for the first time. Since that day, BMS has taught almost 3,000 students, employed over 50 musicians, music educators and recording engineers.
Countless bands have rehearsed at BMS, and 12 children have been able to take advantage of the BMS Scholarship providing them with free instruments and lessons. Since 2007, the Beach Music Rock Band kids (BMRB) have performed 78 shows to thousands — from The Stone Pony to the Lakewood BlueClaws. Under the BMS banner, the Danny White Band raised over $8,000 to repair homes for Sandy victims in Belmar, and we’ve collected thousands of toys during the holiday seasons for Belmar and Asbury Park kids and single moms at the Manna House.
I want to thank all the teachers, past and present, who have helped to make BMS what I believe is a comfortable environment for students, parents and bands to discover and practice music, and to build their confidence. I want to thank the Borough of Belmar (and all its administrations through the years) and the surrounding towns for supporting BMS and welcoming the studio immediately and completely into its community.
Most importantly, I want to thank the families of BMS who have chosen to trust BMS with their children and their music education. To all these families and students who have become friends, thanks ... and here’s to (at least) another 15!
