Jumping Jacks for Jackie: A Fitness Fundraiser

A group of fitness instructors from Belmar invite the community to join them in a socially distanced, outdoor fitness class — for all levels — to support 13-year-old Jackie Minchala, who's battling advanced cancer.

The Belmar Elementary School eighth-grader was diagnosed on August 14 with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, and is currently undergoing treatment. To help pay for medical costs not covered by insurance, her family has set up a GoFundMe page, which has already brought in more than $67,000 toward its $100,000 goal. The fitness class will help support that effort.

The fitness class will be held at Maclearie Park, between the tennis courts and L Street beach, with instructors Kelly Thielen, Erica Coviello, Alli Ross, Dawn Lisko and Tina Lynch each leading 15-minute sessions ranging from cardio to yoga to pilates.

The suggested donation is $10, and the class is open to everyone age 12 and older. Please be sure to bring cash, a mat, water and light weights (optional.)
