BELMAR, NJ — Two-hour parking in Belmar’s downtown district will be enforced as the prime season gets under way.

“This is a courtesy reminder that we issue every year to business owners and their customers with the summer approaching,” said Belmar Police Chief Andrew Huisman.

While parking is not an issue during the offseason — and business owners and residents tend to park in two-hour zones without getting ticketed — the warmer weather brings stricter enforcement of the rules to ensure there is enough parking for shoppers in this busy seashore town.

Two-hour parking zones during business hours are primarily along Main Street between Fifth and 16th Avenues, certain areas of Belmar Plaza, and areas closest to Main Street on Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, 10th and 11th Avenues (see below).

While there are 10-hour zones in certain areas of Belmar Plaza and Belmar Mall, other areas limit parking to no more than 10 or 15 minutes. So make sure to observe all parking signs on streets and in parking lots. Violation of exceeding timed parking carries a $45 fine.

There also is a new municipal lot at Eighth and Railroad Avenues.

On the east side of Ocean Avenue, metered parking with kiosks took effect earlier this month.

In Lake Como, two-hour parking also is in effect from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., from 16th to 19th Avenues, except on Sundays and holidays.

Below is Belmar's ordinance (Chapter XIX-Traffic) for time-limited parking.
