BELMAR NJ — Rock ‘n’ roll ruled the day during the Beach Music Studios annual Spring Concert Scholarship Fundraiser, held yesterday at the Beach Haus Brewery.

Performing to an audience of nearly 100 persons on April 6, the Belmar-based music studio’s young musicians and singers age 8 through 18 undoubtedly demonstrated that music lessons and countless hours of practice do pay off.

While both groups of the Beach Music Rock Band played a rousing set each of songs that spanned the decades of classic rock, the studio’s A Capella Group made its debut appearance at the musical showcase. The ensemble of students age 11 through 18 displayed their blossoming harmonizing skills with a performance of Lady Gaga’s “Million Reasons.”

The selection was arranged by Kerry White, the group’s instructor who also is choral director at Belmar Elementary School. "These kids are awesome," said White in presenting the group, which was created under her tutelage last year.

Ticket sales from the event supports the school’s annual scholarship program, launched five years ago by studio owner Danny White, a popular Jersey Shore singer/songwriter who has performed across the country and has released four full-length CDs of original music.

“Our spring concert gives our students a way to display their talents — for a good cause,” White said. “Through our scholarship program, we give students who want to further their musical education that first step toward pursuing their dreams in the world of music.”

Each year, the scholarship winner receives one full year of music lessons and a musical instrument free of charge.
