LAKE COMO, NJ — Lake Como has canceled all governmental meetings and special events throughout the borough until further notice, under a state of emergency issued by Mayor Kevin Higgins in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
“We have no indications of any positive (coronavirus) infections within the borough, but I am making this decision with an abundance of caution,” he stated in social media posts and on the borough website after his March 13 announcement.
Of particular significance is that many of the special events that fall under this directive are charity run/walks held at Bar Anticipation, including the following scheduled in the upcoming month:
- Bar A Kilt Run/Walk, slated for March 28 to benefit the Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
- De-Feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk by the Mama Mare Cancer Foundation on April 4.
- Jersey Shore Running Club’s 16th Annual Lake Como 5K Romp on April 25 to benefit the New Jersey State Elks Association’s Camp Moore for Children with Special Needs and the Lake Como Giving Tree.
While the Mama Mare Cancer Foundation has canceled its event, the Bar A Kilt Run/Walk has tentatively been rescheduled for May 9. JSRC's Carly Albertus said a decision has not yet been made regarding the Lake Como 5K Romp.
Under the state of emergency, borough operations will continue and borough offices will remain open during regular business hours — Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 732-681-3232.
