UPDATE: Miss New Jersey Jade Glab placed in the top 15 semifinalists in last night's Miss America competition, which was won by Miss Virginia Camille Schrier. Before the final night of the competition, Glab posted on Facebook: "I just want to take a moment to say thank you to absolutely everyone who has shaped me into who I am. I am forever grateful for this humbling experience, and it is because of all of you that this experience is at all possible for me."
UNCASVILLE, CT — Miss New Jersey Jade Glab captured the on-stage interview award during the preliminary round of the Miss America competition on December 15.
During the interview, the 20-year-old Belmar resident talked about how perseverance, dedication and the hard work ethic that she has gained through the Miss America Organization have been instrumental in her success.
That's a far cry, quite literally, from when Glab began competing as a teen and would be so nervous that she would cry before every interview. But after eight tries, she eventually did win a local title, marking the beginning of her rise through the organization.
"When my name was called (at the preliminary competition) it was so surreal, I almost started crying," Glab said in a Miss America Organization video following her win on Sunday night at the Mohegan Sun, where the final competition will be aired live on Thursday, December 19 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
By earning another $1,000 scholarship with the preliminary win, Glab said she garnered a total of $18,000 in scholarship money through the Miss America Organization that will go toward continuing her education at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she plans to pursue a degree in business and finance.
"With Georgetown costing $70,000 a year, I am so thankful for every dollar I get (through) the organization. It is a true asset financially and in the skills that you learn," she said.
