BELMAR, NJ — A group of Belmar Elementary School preschoolers were all smiles during a trip to the dentist earlier this week.

Pre-K teacher Jacqueline Dahrouge’s class took a walk down Main Street on May 29 to Shore Dental Arts, where they learned about their oral health from dentist Hasan Zaidi, D.D.S., and members of his staff. “They showed us around and explained how the children should take care of their teeth,” she said. They gave every child a T-shirt, toothbrush and toothpaste.”

They also watched an educational video, took turns climbing into the dental chair during a tour of the office and practiced their brushing skills on the larger-than-life teeth of a “cooperative” stuffed monkey.

It was part of this week’s lesson for BES prekindergartners to explore how “community helpers” can make life better for those around them — and in this case, they found out first-hand that going to the dentist can be fun.
