BELMAR, NJ — Preschoolers at Belmar Elementary School recently turned their classroom lesson on restaurants into a real-life experience.
Some 30 students took the short walk from the school to Brandl restaurant in Pyanoe Plaza, where they received a tour of the popular eatery by owner Chris Brandl that included a “behind-the-scenes” look at its kitchen.
“(He) helped our prekindergarten students build a connection between a working restaurant and the play kitchen that is set up in our classroom,” said teacher Laurie Diffley. “They were fascinated by the dishwasher, ice machine and fryer.”
To top off the visit, the students were treated to french fries, ice cream and fresh baked cookies served up by two special waitresses — Brandl’s daughters, Adrienne and Chloe, who are also Belmar Elementary students.
