BELMAR, NJ — Belmar Elementary School’s prekindergarten class pulled out all the stops for its Mother’s Day tea party.

They invited their mothers, grandmothers and special women in their lives on May 10 for a morning filled with so many expressions of love. They sang songs and shared loved letters, and surprised their special guests with gifts of jewelry and decorated picture frames with their snapshots inside. And there were plenty of doughnuts, cupcakes, juice — and iced tea — for everyone on the memory-making occasion.

“The children absolutely enjoyed spending time with their loved ones,” said pre-K teacher Patricia Glab.

What made this year’s celebration even more special is that the gifts of jewelry were made possible through the Belmar Elementary School PTO’s first-ever Mother’s Day jewelry sale.

“The whole student body had the opportunity to shop and purchase a variety of costume jewelry donated by parents, teachers and the Belmar community,” said Glab, who proposed the idea of the sale as a fundraiser. “The students were extremely excited to select necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches and pins for their moms, grandmothers and other loved ones.”

Glab, along with the other pre-K teachers, Judith Casale and Jacqueline Dahrouge, collaborated with the PTO to sort, display and sell the items for the sale, which brought in about $1,200 for the PTO to benefit school activities.
